The statue of Popeye has been guarding the Crystal City City Hall since 1937, and was the first comic character statue errected in the world. Crystal City is the self-proclaimed Spinach Capital of the World, rivaling Alma, Arkansas. |

Japanese Internment Camp Memorial
During World War II Crystal City had a Japanese Internment Camp. In the mid-1990s, Crysal City unveiled a memorial monument in the town to remember those who were placed in the camp.
