South Texas at a Glance
With a distinct Mexican influence, South Texas offers visitors a desert environment
and a number of intriguing attractions, traveler services and other amenities.
Fine examples of Chicano culture can be found at many of the towns along the border,
including Laredo, a quintessential
Texas town that is a blend of oil,
ranching and Southern culture. Visitors to Laredo have the option of parking in
the United States and walking across
the Rio
Grande to Nuevo Laredo, the Mexican sister city to Laredo. The proximity to
Mexico entices many visitors to make day trips across the border for shopping
and to experience the authentic Mexican food. This area of Texas also attracts
a number of Snowbirds and recreational vehicle travelers from Canada
and the Mid-Western United States who
seek respite from colder northern climates during the winter months.
